Diploma of Sport Management

Football Player

This program will provide students a fundamental understanding in managing the business of sport. It focuses on aspects from a contemporary perspective which includes communications, marketing and ethics. In general it will enable students to gain knowledge, understanding, skills and values in functional and general administrative areas. The sport industry relies heavily on the skills, dedication and contribution of sport managers as they work alongside with volunteers, players, coaches and other stakeholders developing and guiding the business of sport. Students will also have the opportunity to obtain a certified personal trainer certificate upon successful completion of an external exam administered by the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

 

Program Admission Requirements
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or age 19 and above; Minimum of 60% on the College’s Placement Test or a minimum of IELTS 5.0.

 

Learning Outcomes / Objectives:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts of sport management and leadership and describe the various skills, roles, and functions of sport managers.

  • Apply fundamental marketing concepts to the sport industry, understand the uniqueness of the sport product, and the unique aspects of sport consumer and sport product markets.

  • Apply and evaluate principles of interpersonal communication, mass communications, and public relations, particularly as they are related to sport organizations.

  • Work individually or collaboratively in a group to think and to solve problems, critically, analytically, and creatively in the sport business environment.

  • Explain concepts of morality and theories of ethics as they apply to sport.

  • Explain the structure, governance and operations of sport organizations.

  • To give students the knowledge and understanding necessary to prepare for the ACE Personal Trainer Certification Exam and to become certified personal trainers.
