International Students
As an accredited college by Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia(PCTIA), Winston College is entitled to distribute a “Letter of Acceptance” for students applying for a Study Permit or Visa.
A “Study Permit” must be obtained in your home country prior to coming to Canada. Contact the Canadian Embassy in your country about specific requirements. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/offices/missions.html.
A Visitor’s Visa will allow up to six months study in Canada at a registered educational institute. If you plan to study beyond six months, then a Study Permit is required. Usually the following documents are required by a student to apply for a visitor visa:
- A formal letter of admission from Winston College
- A valid passport
- Proof that you have enough money to support yourself while you are in Canada
- A medical examination may be required
If your application is approved, you will receive a letter of permission issued by Canadian Embassy. This letter MUST be shown to the Immigration Officer when you enter Canada.
Students possessing a Study Permit and attending an educational institute are not eligible to work in Canada except under specific circumstances. More details explained at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/permit-who.html
Homestay
Winston College offers accommodation through our Homestay program to International students who wish to experience living with a Canadian family during their study abroad experience. Living with a Canadian family can help improve English language skills while providing a warm and supportive learning environment.
Students have an opportunity to learn about Canadian culture and lifestyles and to share their cultural background with their host family. Our Homestay Coordinator will try to match the student application to that of a suitable host family. Students are provided their own furnished room and three meals a day.
International students considering the Homestay program should realize that Canadian families come from a diverse multi-cultural background. Students are expected to integrate into the family and participate in the family’s daily routines. Students should realize that both adults might work outside the home and maintain a busy schedule of activities both work-related and social.
Students should understand that although many families enjoy participating in our Homestay program, each family enjoys a different lifestyle.
Other types of Accommodations
There are other types of accommodations available as well. They include individual accommodations and shared accommodations. Individual accommodations mean student lives on his/her own and shared accommodations mean the student lives with roommate(not a family). In both situations, the student will be responsible for all his/her own needs, including: cooking, washing and cleaning.
Arrival
If the student wants to arrange the airport pickup from Vancouver International Airport, the student needs to request the service to Winston College. A fee of CAD$50 will be forwarded along with the student’s tuition fees. The student also can take a taxi to the host family. Taxis can be found outside the exit doors at the Vancouver International Airport. For more information please email us at: info@winstoncollege.com

International students who will be in British Columbia for more than 6 months are required to enrol in the MSP – Medical Service Plan at the premium status, costing either $54 per month per person, $96 for two people, or $108 for three or more people. Candidates are advised to enroll as soon as their arrival since full access to medical services is not granted immediately –waiting period for processing will take the balance of the month in which one arrives to the province, plus 2 months to process. During this waiting period students are urged to purchase private health insurance, costing $150 for 3 months.
