Diploma of Computer Science (System Engineering)

 

Program Outline

This diploma program teaches student the knowledge of network technologies available in the market. Level I prepare a student for all the entry level jobs for IT professionals like technical support, Microsoft office professional or a computer technician. Level II prepare a student for entering into the field of networking. After doing this course, a student would be quite proficient in setting up simple networks, maintaining simple security issues and maintaining a Windows server. Students will be ready for their A+, Security+, Network+, MOS and MCTS certification exams during the course. Level III is the advanced specialization where student can choose any one out of available three. After completing this level, a student would be a network expert. It is a student’s choice to even do two to be more sellable in the industry.

 

Program Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent with GPA average B- or above, or age 19 and above; Winston College English placement test minimum 60% or Winston College ESL program as a prerequisite.

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program the student will be able to:

  • Design computer networks using current technologies and trouble shoot computer network problems
  • Configure and install Windows Server 2008 & active directory; Manage and recover messaging security
  • Create and use a network sniffer to capture and display virtual switch network traffic
  • Determine IP routes and manage IP traffic with access lists; Establish point-to-point connections and frame relay connections; Demonstrate the skills required in plan and implement the local and wide area networks
  • Maintain advance security in wired and wireless environments; Perform System Configuration and Management
  • Manage Network Services like HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, FTP, NFS, SMB, SMTP, SSH and NTP
  • Understand and Use Essential Tools; Operate Running Systems; Configure Local Storage
