Program Outline
The English as a Second Language Courses is available in 6 levels offering students an interactive, meaningful and lively way to learn or improve their English language skills while being introduced to Canadian culture. This course focuses on improving fundamental English skills, including vocabulary, reading, writing, grammar, speech and listening skills in a comfortable environment. Winston College also provides a language lab where students can improve their conversation and listening skills using interactive language tapes. The program is designed for learning English language to improve speaking and listening skills while increasing vocabulary and fluency. Topics are inspired by current language teaching approaches, methods and practices and designed for students’ interests and needs.
Program Requirements:
All students who want to take ESL classes at Winston College are required to take the Winston College English Placement Test. A counsellor will explain your test scores and help you choose the best program level for you.
Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
Upon completion of this program the student will be able to:
- Use increased vocabulary
- Understand basic grammar structures
- Improve reading and listening comprehension
- Correspond using letters and memos
- Understand and complete forms and applications
- Enter career and training certificate and diploma programs
- Be prepared for English Entrance Tests(i.e. IELTS)
- Advanced students will write business proposals, make presentations and extend vocabulary for use in advanced contexts
